Teen Murderer Pictured After Racist Knife Attack on Father in Barry

A 17-year-old who murdered a father in a racist knife attack has been pictured for the first time, following the lifting of a legal restriction due to his age. Marcus Staniforth is one of two teenagers who have been sentenced for the murder of Kamran Rasool Aman, 38, in Barry, south Wales. The pair targeted the "loving" husband while he was getting into his car in a violent and unprovoked assault.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The defendants were convicted at Cardiff Crown Court on December 23 last year after a trial revealed that the teens noticed Mr Aman in the street and went outside in a drunken rage to racially abuse and kill him. The trial heard that on June 30 last year, the teenagers had been drinking, and during the attack, Mr Aman tried to defend himself against punches from the younger teen, aged 16, while Staniforth picked up a kitchen knife from a house and stabbed him.

Kamran Rasool Aman died of a single stab wound to the heart in the early hours of July 1. Prosecutor Owen Edwards KC stated that the 16-year-old spotted Mr Aman getting into his car while looking out of a window, and after Mr Aman briefly looked at him, the defendant shouted, "What you looking at bro?" before starting to punch his own head.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

A restriction on naming Staniforth over his age was lifted by a judge because he is so close to his 18th birthday, but the other defendant, aged 16, cannot be identified due to legal protections. In his closing speech, Mr Edwards said: "A young father set out from the home he shared with his wife and children. He was visiting his mother in the family home in Barry Road. He took her some shopping and left the house shortly after midnight to enter his own car. He did nothing wrong."

He added: "Within minutes he lay bleeding to death on Barry Road having been attacked by two young men. They inflicted unlawful violence on him and they wanted to seriously hurt him. Kamran Aman was simply wanting to survive. Mr Aman was given no choice and no chance. We say, quite simply, Kamran Aman was murdered by two young men in an act of drunken temper."

The prosecutor emphasised that the defendants intended to cause really serious harm, leading to Mr Aman's tragic death. This case highlights ongoing concerns about knife crime and racial violence in communities across the UK.
