A teenage girl remains in hospital nearly two weeks after being knocked off an e-scooter in Liverpool city centre. Merseyside Police were called to Great George Street around 1.20am on Sunday, July 17, following reports that two 17-year-old girls riding an e-scooter had crashed with a Mercedes Vito van.
Arrests Made
The crash left one of the teenagers fighting for her life in hospital. The second teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without insurance. The driver of the Mercedes Vito failed to stop at the scene, but the vehicle was later located nearby, police said.
A 57-year-old man from Liverpool was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop. Both the teenager and the man have been released but remain under investigation, the force confirmed in an update on Thursday, August 6.
Current Condition
When asked for an update by the ECHO, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said the girl taken to hospital is now in a serious but stable condition. She remains in hospital awaiting further assessment.
Following the collision, Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit appealed for eyewitnesses to come forward. He said: “As part of our initial inquiries, we have arrested two people, and they both remain in custody, where they will be questioned about their possible involvement.”
He added: “In the meantime, I'd like to take this opportunity to appeal to any possible witnesses. If anyone saw what occurred or was driving through the area just before the incident, then please get in touch.”
Appeal for Information
DS Duffy also asked anyone who saw two girls on an e-scooter in other parts of the city to contact police. He urged residents and workers in the area to review CCTV or smart doorbell footage for anything that could assist the investigation.
