Teen found hiding in wheelie bin after Bolton burglary attempt

Police in Bolton arrested a 17-year-old boy after finding him hiding inside a wheelie bin following reports of an attempted burglary in the early hours of October 24.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to Ullswater Drive in Farnworth at 3:50am to reports of a disturbance in the area. On arrival, officers found that a group had attempted to break into a garden shed and steal items.

Foot chase and discovery

Following a foot chase and nearby searches, officers discovered the teenager hiding inside a wheelie bin. Bodycam footage shared by the force shows an officer shining a torch on a green wheelie bin laid on the ground, from which a pair of feet can be seen protruding. "Out you come now," the officer is heard to shout.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, along with a 16-year-old girl also arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

Bailed and ongoing enquiries

Both have since been bailed, with enquiries continuing to identify and locate others believed to be involved in the incident.

Sergeant Emily Fogg said: "The boy clearly did a rubbish job of hiding from our neighbourhood officers. Our policing teams are committed to rooting out criminality in our communities and will continue to seek justice for victims of this invasive crime."
