A dramatic police chase through the streets of Brighton ended in chaos when a stolen car ploughed into a residential home, causing significant damage and leaving locals in shock.
The incident unfolded after officers spotted the vehicle, reportedly stolen from Melbourne, Australia, speeding through the city. A pursuit ensued, with the driver allegedly ignoring traffic signals and weaving dangerously through streets.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as the car, travelling at high speed, lost control and smashed into the front of a house. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where debris was scattered across the road.
"It was terrifying," one resident told reporters. "The noise was unbelievable—like an explosion. The whole street came out to see what had happened."
Police confirmed that the driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. No serious injuries were reported, though the occupants of the house were treated for shock.
Authorities are now investigating how the vehicle, believed to have been shipped illegally to the UK, ended up in Brighton. Forensic teams examined the wreckage as the damaged property was cordoned off.
Local councillors have called for tighter controls on imported vehicles following the incident, while residents expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt.
