Fire services rushed to a house fire near Manchester Airport on August 3, sending plumes of smoke over the runway for about 30 minutes before clearing.

Fire engines were spotted on the runway as both Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Manchester Airport's fire crew responded to the incident in the Woodhouse Park area of Wythenshawe. The airport's fire service responded to reports of a house fire in the area.
Eyewitness Mohammed Umar, who was plane watching with his daughter, said: "We were at the South Side runway viewpoint and we just saw loads of smoke coming from the building that you can see in the pictures."
Eyewitness account
He described two fire engines arriving and later exiting, with smoke visible for at least 25 to 30 minutes. His daughter noticed a chemical smell. The smoke gradually disappeared, and conditions returned to normal.
The smoke has since cleared, according to the Manchester Evening News.
