Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire at a flat above a shop on High Road in Wood Green. It is understood that part of the second-floor flat above a shop is alight.
Incident details
The London Fire Brigade was first alerted to reports of a fire at around 7:22am on Tuesday morning. Crews from Hornsey, Tottenham, Holloway and surrounding fire stations were subsequently dispatched to the scene.
Public advised to avoid area
The brigade is urging people to avoid the area while crews get the fire under control. Road closures are currently in place with the A105 High Road closed in both directions. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
Second fire this week
This is the second fire above a shop this week. On Monday, a fire broke out at a shop with flats above on Hackney Road in east London. Footage on social media showed thick plumes of black smoke rising into the sky, as the roof of the building could be seen ablaze. Residents were consequently evacuated from the properties.
