SF Anchor's Son Battles Sudden Paralysis

A well-known San Francisco news anchor has revealed how his son is fighting for his ability to walk again after a sudden, unexplained paralysis. KRON 4's James Fletcher made the revelation Thursday after suddenly disappearing from the Bay Area station's morning broadcast a few weeks ago. He explained how his 23-year-old son, Collin, was admitted to the hospital earlier this month. Doctors are still working urgently to identify the cause, but Fletcher described it as a sudden, unexplained neurological crisis.

Race Against Time

The longtime host is now posting updates and has created a GoFundMe as doctors look for the cause. Every day that passes without answers is a day the window for recovery narrows, James wrote, due to certain neurological conditions being reversible early on. We are in a race we did not choose, against a clock we cannot stop, fighting for our son's ability to walk again, he explained. And we are doing it while standing at the edge of financial collapse.

Medical History and Financial Burden

Collin has battled serious conditions like Crohn's disease and seizures his entire life, he explained. Each crisis left behind bills, Fletcher said. We managed them the way most families do: payment plans, credit cards, loans. We did what we had to do. But years of doing what we had to do have left us with a crushing load of medical debt - and almost no margin left.

Fletcher - a KRON 4 anchor for the past two decades - has raised $7,915 so far. He posted a photo of him and his family from the hospital with Collin on Thursday as well, with both holding up thumbs-up signs. Please take 30 seconds to share this, he wrote in a caption, pleading for donations or reshares.

Community Support

Fletcher hailed his son as sharp, determined, and full of life. Please keep Collin in your thoughts as he fights the hardest battle of his young life, he wrote. KRON 4, in its report, said it is standing with James, Collin, and the Fletcher family and is wishing Collin strength and a full recovery. Fletcher started at KRON 4 as a freelance writer in 2002 before becoming the station's most recognizable face. He has not announced plans to return to the air.
