A former British DJ and professional swimmer is behind the design of a potential $250 banknote featuring Donald Trump. Iain Alexander, who describes himself as Trump’s “favourite British artist,” has created the bill that includes the president’s mugshot, according to a photo obtained by The Washington Post.
Trump administration officials at the Treasury Department are reportedly pushing for the creation of the note to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States. However, federal law only permits deceased individuals to appear on currency. Alexander said he proposed a “women’s liberation” theme for the reverse side, featuring Betsy Ross, who made flags during the American Revolution.
Alexander has also created art for Queen Elizabeth II, Elon Musk, and Tyson Fury. He claims a three-dimensional artwork of the Queen was presented to her during her Platinum Jubilee in 2022. His social media shows him with Lionel Richie and at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club on several occasions.
In addition to the banknote, Alexander is working on a larger project for the 250th anniversary of Independence Day on 4 July. He noted that getting feedback from the president has been difficult since the war in Iran broke out.
Alexander previously trained for the GB swimming team for the 2000 Olympics but withdrew due to injury. He later worked as a DJ and opened a club in Dubai in 2006. He told a podcast that building relationships with high-profile clients required significant time and effort.
