Seven arrested after man killed at Seaham petrol station

The devastated family of a man killed after being struck by a car on a petrol station forecourt have paid a heartfelt tribute to their 'kind-hearted son and brother'.

Forecourt Tragedy in County Durham

Daniel Ambler suffered serious injuries when he was hit at the Asda Express and Esso station on Stockton Road in Seaham, County Durham. The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, 15 January.

Despite the efforts of paramedics who rushed to the scene, Mr Ambler was pronounced dead at the forecourt. The road was closed and a police cordon was established as officers launched a murder investigation.

Seven Suspects in Custody

As part of their intensive enquiries, Durham Police have arrested seven individuals. Three male teenagers and a man in his 50s have all been detained on suspicion of murder.

In addition, two women in their 40s and one female teenager have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All seven remain in police custody.

Forensics teams were seen conducting a meticulous examination of the petrol station throughout Friday.

Family's Heartbreaking Tribute and Police Appeal

In an emotional statement, Daniel Ambler's grieving family described the immense void left by his death. They said: 'Daniel was a much-loved son and brother, and his death will leave a huge hole in our hearts forever.'

'He had a great sense of humour, was popular among friends, and was able to bring laughter to any situation. Our family is devastated, but we will remember Daniel for being the kind-hearted soul that he was.'

Officers are urgently seeking Ashton Anderson, aged 19, who they believe holds vital information about the incident. He is described as around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, and with short brown hair.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Woollett of Durham Police said: 'I'd like to thank the community of Seaham for their support while our officers have been carrying out their inquiries since Thursday evening.'

'An increased police presence will remain at a number of locations in and around the area while the investigation continues, but I'd also like to reassure people that we have no information to suggest any wider risk to the public.'

DCI Woollett issued a stern warning, adding: 'Anybody found to be assisting or concealing suspects, however, will face robust action. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the victim.'

Police are appealing for anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or any information about the incident to come forward immediately.
