A security worker at a Liverpool Tesco store has been dismissed following allegations that a racial slur was used during an incident. The worker, employed by Carlisle Support Services, was based at the Tesco Extra on Park Road in Liverpool 8.
The alleged incident occurred last week, and it was claimed that a racial slur was used. Carlisle Support Services, which provides security guards for businesses across the country, said the officer was "immediately investigated" and has now left the company.
Company response
A spokesperson for Carlisle Support Services said: "We take allegations of discriminatory or offensive language extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy towards behaviour that falls below the standards we expect of our colleagues.
"Carlisle is committed to maintaining an inclusive and respectful working environment, expecting all colleagues to uphold our values and always treat others with respect. The officer was immediately investigated and has now exited the business."
Tesco's stance
Tesco is aware of the incident. The supermarket chain said it works hard to create a welcoming environment and does not tolerate abuse of any kind. All contractors working at its sites are required to align with its values, and all allegations of this nature are investigated.
