Lucy Turnbull was seen supervising removalists as they transported her husband Malcolm Turnbull's belongings from Kirribilli House to their Point Piper mansion on Friday. The move comes a week after Mr Turnbull resigned as prime minister and was replaced by Scott Morrison.
The removalists were pictured unloading boxes from a van outside the $52 million property, with a police officer keeping watch. The boxes had been sent from Parliament House in Canberra after Mr Turnbull officially resigned from federal parliament on Friday afternoon.
Mr Turnbull had opted to live at his Sydney mansion during his premiership, rather than at Kirribilli House, the traditional prime ministerial residence. He cited the proximity to his grandson as a reason for the decision.
The former prime minister and his wife plan to travel to New York for a six-week holiday, where they own a two-bedroom apartment purchased in 2012 for $4.5 million. Mr Turnbull will not participate in the Liberal party's campaign to retain his seat of Wentworth, which will now face a by-election.
The by-election could threaten the government's one-seat majority, with polls suggesting the seat might fall to Labor for the first time. Christine Forster, sister of former prime minister Tony Abbott, is among those seeking Liberal preselection for Wentworth.
