Multi-agency search for missing man last seen by Loch Eil
Search for missing man last seen by Loch Eil

A major multi-agency search operation is under way for a man who has not been seen for a week after he was last spotted walking alongside a Highland loch.

Dennis Sinsheimer, 33, from Dunoon, was last seen leaving his accommodation off the B8004 in Banavie, west of Fort William, at 8.33am on Tuesday, September 29. He is understood to have walked west along the A830 on the banks of Loch Eil.

CCTV sighting and last known movements

CCTV later captured Dennis at Annat Point Industrial Estate at 10.20am that morning. He is believed to have continued walking west along the pavement adjacent to the A830.

However, the pavement only continues for a short distance past the industrial estate, and there have been no further sightings of Dennis since.

Extensive search and public appeal

After his disappearance was reported to police, officers have worked with mountain rescue and the Coastguard in an extensive hunt to trace Dennis. Searches have been focused around the area and nearby woodland adjacent to the A830.

As of today, Tuesday, October 6, police have been stopping vehicles on the A830 to ask members of the public for any information which could assist in their search. Locals will also be asked if they have been driving in the area within the last week and if they can provide any relevant dash-cam footage.

Description and appeal for information

Dennis has been described as 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build with dark coloured hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, grey jeans, a blue tie-dye style T-shirt and white Nike trainers.

Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “It has been seven days since Dennis was last seen and as time passes, we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

“We are asking members of the public to think back, have you been driving in this area within the past week and possibly noticed a man matching Dennis’ description?

“We are appealing for your assistance and unformed patrols are looking to speak to anyone who can assist and help trace Dennis.”

Those with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 1678 of 29 September, 2026.
