Father's Heartfelt Tribute to 'Cheeky' Schoolboy, 15, Who Died in Lincoln Lake Tragedy

The father of 15-year-old Declan Sawyer has spoken out for the first time following his son's tragic death in Swanholme Lakes, Lincoln. Police received reports at around 2:30pm on Sunday of a boy in difficulty in the water. Specialist divers and an underwater search team worked to locate the teenager, and his body was recovered that evening.

Paying tribute, his father Carl described Declan as a 'funny and outgoing' young man who loved fishing and football. He said: 'He had a very cheeky smile and the personality to match. He was very much loved by his friends and family, and will be missed dearly by many.' Carl also urged parents to make children aware of the dangers of playing near rivers and lakes in hot weather, while asking for privacy at this 'very sad and upsetting time'.

Friends and family have taken to social media to mourn the teenager. One relative wrote: 'My heart is so heavy and I don't have many words. May you rest in peace, my angel.' Another said: 'He was the funniest boy and he will be missed by so many. He is a popular young man and will always be remembered.'
