School Secretary Dies After Crowd-Surfing Accident Reveals Brain Clots
School Secretary Dies After Crowd-Surfing Accident

A beloved high school secretary tragically passed away after a freak crowd-surfing accident at a rock music festival led to the discovery of life-threatening blood clots in her brain. Danielle Uskiwich, 28, was attending Pointfest in Maryland on May 16 when a crowd surfer accidentally struck her in the head while the band Sleep Theory performed. Initially, she did not think much of the incident, but three days later, severe headaches forced her to seek medical attention.

Medical Emergency and Discovery

Doctors at the hospital discovered a severe brain bleed. Uskiwich's health rapidly deteriorated, and she suffered a stroke, causing weakness and deficiencies on her right side. A second stroke necessitated emergency surgery, during which doctors removed a massive blood clot, approximately six pints of blood. She was placed in a medically induced coma to reduce brain swelling.

Family's Heartbreaking Announcement

Ten days after the festival, Uskiwich's family announced with 'shattered hearts' that she had died. Her mother, Lori Missey, clarified that her daughter had been experiencing headaches before the concert, but the accident drew attention to the underlying condition. 'The incident at the concert was actually a blessing in disguise to lead her to the hospital. The strokes were going to happen regardless; the concert gave her a fighting chance,' she wrote on Facebook.

Remembering Danielle

Uskiwich worked as an attendance secretary at St Charles High School in Waldorf, Maryland. Her former employer, Hardin Middle School, paid tribute, stating, 'She was a kind face who greeted our visitors and worked with students on their attendance. She dedicated herself to forming relationships with students, parents, and staff.' Her family described her as having 'the kindest heart, a beautiful smile, and a spirit that could light up any room.'

Recent Engagement and Future Plans

Uskiwich had recently become engaged to Jason Wright, and the couple was planning their wedding. Her last Facebook post joyfully announced, 'WE’RE GETTING MARRIED.' Following her death, her family arranged a 'beautiful honor walk' before organ donation, reflecting her generous spirit.

Fundraiser and Support

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Uskiwich's medical expenses and related costs. Her fiancé shared the fundraiser, expressing determination to get through the difficult time. The Daily Mail has reached out to the family for comment.
