A woman was injured when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a school bus on the A686 in Northumberland, prompting a large emergency response including the Great North Air Ambulance.

The incident took place at around 3.30pm on Wednesday on a section of the road south of Haydon Bridge. Northumbria Police confirmed that emergency services attended the traffic collision between a car and a school bus.
The car's driver was injured, but it is not thought that her injuries are life-threatening. No one on the bus is thought to have been injured.
Emergency response
The police, ambulance service and air ambulance all attended the scene. A stretch of the road was closed into Thursday for accident investigation work.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A686 near Langley Castle Road in Northumberland.
“It was reported that a car and a school bus had collided. Emergency services attended and the driver of the car was found to have sustained injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
“She was taken to hospital for treatment. No one on the bus sustained any injuries. A section of the road was closed to allow for recovery of the vehicles involved and later re-opened to traffic.”
Ambulance statement
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A686 in Haydon Bridge at 15:35 on Wednesday 30 September 2026. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and supported by the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS). One patient was taken to RVI hospital by road for further treatment."
