A large fire broke out inches away from homes in Rutherglen on Bonfire Night after fireworks reportedly landed in a garden, with fire crews taking three hours to bring it under control.
Firefighters were called to Bute Road in the South Lanarkshire town at 7.06pm on November 5 following reports of a dwelling fire. Two fire engines attended the scene, and the blaze was extinguished at 10pm.
Garden Fire Spreads Between Properties
Footage shared on social media shows the garden engulfed in flames, with fire visible between two properties and thick smoke rising into the sky. In the clip, the blaze can be seen erupting next to a garden shed, with people heard screaming and shouting above the crackling of the fire.
The orange flames are shown creeping towards a car and a shed inside the garden. It is currently unknown if there are any injuries.
Resident Describes Scene
In the footage, a neighbour can be heard saying: "This is right across from my house. They tried to get the motor and couldn't get it. That's what fireworks do for you." The male is seen holding up a blood-covered hand to the camera.
He went on: "I'm burnt to f**k. Two people's houses up in fire."
