A black and white cat named Izzy, who was found stuck behind a boiler in an empty home in Hull, is still waiting for a new owner despite being rescued by the RSPCA Izzy was discovered by a contractor trapped upside down in a tiny gap between the boiler and a wall at a property in Inglemire. The house had been empty for at least 12 days with no food or water left for the abandoned pet.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Lizzy Thompson rescued Izzy on 11 February by wrapping her in a towel and gently easing her out. Thompson said the cat was 'scared but alive' and may have been scavenging for food outside through a small open window. Despite being dehydrated, a vet found Izzy to be in surprisingly good condition and she was transferred to the charity's Bridlington, Driffield & District Branch cattery.
Cattery staff say Izzy is slowly beginning to come out of her shell but remains a sensitive cat who can react defensively when overwhelmed. She has not received a single adoption enquiry. The trauma of her ordeal has affected her behaviour, and she needs a patient, understanding home with an experienced cat owner.
Bridlington Branch Cattery Manager Sophie Gibbon-Roles said: 'The trauma Izzy went through has understandably had an impact on her behaviour. We're looking for a very specific type of home with an experienced cat owner who will give her time, patience and understanding.' Izzy is not suitable for first-time owners and requires a quiet, adult-only home with no other pets.
Supporters have raised nearly £200 towards Izzy's veterinary treatment and ongoing care. She has been microchipped, neutered and vaccinated. Those interested in adopting can contact the branch via email at cattery@rspca-bridlington.org.uk.
