Purple Lamborghini seized under new anti-social driving laws

A purple Lamborghini Huracan was seized by police in Oldham on Tuesday after the driver's 'excessive engine revving', Greater Manchester Police said. The supercar was taken away on the back of a truck under new legislation designed to prevent anti-social behaviour involving vehicles.

New powers for immediate seizure

Under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002, as amended by the Crime and Policing Act 2026, police can now seize a vehicle immediately without first issuing a warning if the legal grounds are met. Previously, a warning was generally required before seizure, GMP said.

The force said a vehicle can be seized if an officer in uniform has reasonable grounds to believe the vehicle is being used carelessly or inconsiderately, or off-road unlawfully. Cars and other vehicles can also be seized if the manner of driving is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress, or annoyance to members of the public.

Covered offences

GMP said the new legislation covers street racing; performing donuts in car parks; wheel spinning and drifting; excessive revving or car cruises. The Lamborghini was seized for 'anti-social driving and excessive engine revving', according to the force.

No further details about the Lamborghini have been revealed and it's not known whether any arrests were made.
