Zian Flemming urged to stay at Burnley amid Everton links

New Burnley head coach Nicky Hayen has urged Zian Flemming to stay, with the striker being linked to Everton after David Moyes was spotted at Turf Moor on Sunday.

Flemming's recent form

A late brace from Flemming secured a 2-2 comeback draw for the Clarets who had trailed 2-0 to Moyes’ previous employers West Ham United and took the Dutch striker’s tally to three for the fledgling campaign after he’d previously netted in the Carabao Cup tie against Notts County.

The 28-year-old Amsterdam-born player has scored 29 goals in 71 games for Burnley since joining them from Millwall for £7million on August 31, 2024. Brentford, Coventry City and Leeds United have all previously been linked to Flemming, but according to a report in the Burnley Express, Everton have now emerged as potential suitors.

Hayen's comments on Flemming's future

The same article quotes Belgian Hayen, who took the reins at the Clarets after both Rob Edwards and Craig Bellamy turned down the position earlier this summer, as saying: “It didn’t help that he scored two times!

“No, but I’m really pleased with his performance and also the way he scored the penalty.

“He scored that second goal and, of course, Zian is really important, not only with his goals, but also the way he plays for us.

“But as I said, the way we play also suits him, so I think it’s the best choice for him to stay, because he can be even more important than before and maybe wait for six months and a half, and during the winter break it can change every time.

“I’m aware of that, but the way he feels, I think he enjoys himself and that’s the most important at the moment.”
