A hotel porter in China inadvertently plunged into a swimming pool while carrying guests' luggage, an incident that was caught on closed-circuit television. The event took place on 21 May at a hotel situated in Yangshuo County, near the city of Guilin.
How the Incident Unfolded
The employee was making his way across a rain-slicked car park, seemingly oblivious to the pool's presence. He stepped directly into the water, still clutching two large suitcases. The splash and commotion immediately drew the attention of bystanders, who rushed over to assist the drenched porter and retrieve the floating luggage from the pool.
Aftermath and Reactions
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the porter was quickly pulled to safety. The hotel management later reviewed the CCTV footage to understand how the accident occurred. The video shows the porter walking confidently before suddenly disappearing into the water, leaving onlookers momentarily stunned before they sprang into action.
This incident highlights the potential hazards of poorly marked or visually deceptive swimming pools, especially in areas with wet surfaces that can obscure the water's edge. Hotels are advised to ensure clear signage and barriers to prevent similar mishaps.
