Policewoman Accidentally Shoots Woman During Chat in Venezuela

A female police officer has accidentally shot a woman in the stomach during a friendly chat in Caracas, Venezuela. CCTV footage shows the two women engaging in conversation and laughing outside a metro station when suddenly the gun discharged, leaving the victim, Nairelis Gonzalez Avalo, 22, seriously injured.

The Incident

Officer Siomary Castillo was seen sitting on a railing, swinging her leg as she showed Ms Gonzalez Avalo her firearm before the tragic accident occurred. The victim appeared in agony, immediately crouching over and clutching her stomach. The pair then rushed over to another officer for assistance.

Ms Gonzalez Avalo continued to double over in pain and eventually sat down behind a table at the metro entrance, where the officer had been stationed. Firefighters and Civil Protection officers arrived at the scene to provide first aid before transporting the victim to the Domingo Luciani hospital in El Llanito for surgery.

Medical Condition

A doctor at the hospital was quoted by local media as saying: 'The patient's condition is delicate, but she is in a stable condition.' Authorities have not confirmed the severity of the injuries suffered during the incident.

Investigation

A spokesman for the Bolivarian National Police stated: 'Everything points to a regrettable accident with the firearm.' The force has opened an internal investigation to establish how the weapon came to be fired.
