Police swarmed Newcastle United full-back Amar Dedic after a member of the public reported seeing two men carrying a bow and arrows close to a reservoir outside Newcastle. The weapon was seized by officers, who later concluded there was no threat to the public.
The 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international was stopped with a friend in a vehicle in the Harlow Hill area, according to the Daily Mail. The bow and arrows were confiscated by the force.
Recreational Use Confirmed
Officers subsequently satisfied themselves that the weapon was for recreational use only and posed no threat to the public, though inquiries continue.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.55pm (on Wednesday), we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.
“Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows.
“At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Dedic joined Newcastle United from Benfica in the summer for a reported £29.5 million. The incident is understood to have taken place on Wednesday, with police responding to the report shortly after 1.55pm.
