Police search for woman after tissue found in Rochdale street

Greater Manchester Police are searching for a woman believed to have recently given birth in a Rochdale street after suspected human tissue was discovered nearby. Officers were called to reports of the find off Kingsway shortly before 9am on Thursday, prompting an investigation.

Detectives said evidence recovered near the junction of Watkins Street and Charter Street suggested a woman may have given birth in the area. The force has appealed for information as concerns grow for the woman's welfare, warning that she may require urgent medical attention, according to The Mirror.

Police priority to locate woman

Detective Inspector Daniel Daly, from GMP's Rochdale CID, said the police's "absolute priority" at this moment is finding the woman, as she may be in need of urgent medical attention. "Since receiving the report earlier today, we have been carrying out a number of lines of enquiry but our priority to find the woman and make sure she is safe and well," Detective Daly said.

"She may be in need of urgent medical attention, and she is our absolute priority at the moment - that is why we are asking anyone with information to contact us."

Appeal for information

Anyone who may have seen a woman in distress, or has any information regarding the incident, is being asked to contact Greater Manchester Police. "Anyone with information, or who may have seen a woman in distress, is asked to call us on 101 and quote incident number 684 of 22/10/2026.
