Police ramraid update: Newcastle store closed

Northumbria Police has issued an update on the ramraid investigation in Newcastle city centre, where a car smashed through the glass front of the Designer Exchange store on Grainger Street, near Grey's Monument.

The vehicle, believed to be a Volkswagen Sharan, caused extensive damage to furniture, products and the business itself, leaving shattered glass both inside and outside the premises. Officers attended the scene at around 4.40am on Monday morning, and nobody was reported to be injured.

Investigation continuing

The investigation is continuing, with officers making enquiries to identify anyone involved. The vehicle left the scene before police arrived.

Designer Exchange has also released a statement announcing that the incident has forced the business to close 'until further notice'. The statement reads: "To our community. We are saddened to let you know that our Newcastle store will be temporarily closed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances.

"We kindly ask for your patience and understanding while we work through this situation and do everything we can to reopen our doors as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued love and support.

We can't wait to welcome you all back soon and be back open in the Toon. Love, Designer Exchange Newcastle team x."
