Investigation Launched After World Cup Star's Sudden Death
Police have launched an investigation following the death of South African midfielder Jayden Adams, who passed away just two weeks after representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 25-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns star was found dead at a property in Cape Town on Saturday.
A police statement read: "Cape Town central police registered an inquest for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old male on Saturday."
Family Awaits Autopsy Results
Adams' family are still awaiting the results of an autopsy. His father, Juanito, told South African TV news station eNCA: "As you all know, it was an untimely death. The family is struggling to process it. It won't be easy to carry on. People say it will become easier, but it won't. You just learn to live with it."
Emotional Video Emerges
Sad footage has emerged on social media of Adams sitting quietly in the changing room while his Bafana Bafana teammates celebrated their victory over South Korea, which secured their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup. He watched on as players danced around him.
World Cup Performance
Adams featured in all of South Africa's group stage matches at the World Cup but was an unused substitute during their 1-0 defeat to Canada in the round of 32.
