A quiet afternoon in regional Victoria turned into a scene of dramatic violence as a police officer was shot during what began as a routine traffic stop in Porepunkah, sparking one of the largest manhunts the area has seen in recent years.

"One of our officers has sustained a gunshot wound during this incident," a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed. "The officer was immediately transported to hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment. Their condition is described as stable."
