A 24-year-old mother from Atlanta, Georgia, has been charged with murder after allegedly placing her two youngest sons in an oven and turning it on. Lamora Williams is accused of killing Keyante Penn, two, and Ja'karter Penn, one, on Friday night, according to an arrest warrant.
Police say the boys suffered severe burn marks. The oven has been removed from the home for investigation. Williams initially told officers that the children may have died while in the care of another person, but this was later found to be false.
Williams is believed to have recently quit her job due to childcare issues and had told friends she 'couldn't do it anymore'. She reportedly suffered from undiagnosed mental health problems following her father's death when she was 19 and the pressures of being a single mother of four.
The boys' father, Jameel Penn, alerted police after Williams video chatted him and he saw his motionless children. He said he is 'lost' without his sons. A three-year-old son was unharmed in the home, and a six-year-old daughter was with family at the time.
Williams waived her first court appearance on Monday for felony murder charges. Her sister has called for her to be placed on suicide watch.
