Police have been drafted in for increased patrols at a park in Bolton following an influx in anti-social behaviour incidents with members of the public being 'abused'.
Greater Manchester Police said they have been made aware of 'a number of issues' involving incidents at Old Station Park in Horwich over recent weeks.
However, residents have said reports of anti-social behaviour incidents are 'nothing new'. In 2021, the Manchester Evening News reported how large groups of yobs had been 'wreaking havoc' on the streets of the Bolton suburb.
A dispersal order was put in place following reports of more than 100 youths congregating in the area. Eggs and soil were also thrown at homes. And in 2020, a 40-year-old metal wheel monument in the park was also vandalised.
After GMP shared the update on social media, one person commented: "It's been happening for donkey's years." Another said: "Well it's about time further patrols were put on. Youths carrying knives, threatening other children as well the amount of drug use too!"
"CCTV would be a help," a third wrote. "It's a shame. Horwich used to be a nice place to live."
A statement shared by Greater Manchester Police read: "Officers from the Horwich neighbourhood policing team have been made aware of a number of issues involving anti-social behaviour on Old Station Park.
"Abuse towards members of the public using the park will not be tolerated and action will be taken against any individuals identified as being involved. Plans are in place to increase patrols in the area. If you witness or are a victim of anti-social behaviour, please report this online or by ringing 101."
