Young partygoers in Boca Raton, Florida, sporting skimpy bathing suits on expensive boats were interrupted by police hunting for an 'aggressive' perpetrator during the annual Boca Bash on Lake Boca.
Arrest of David Scott Howell
David Scott Howell, 58, was detained on Sunday at the event after he allegedly made 'aggressive advancements' at bikini-clad partiers. He faces two counts of battery and one count of felony child abuse, according to CBS12. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials noticed the 'disturbance' and reported that the victims had visible injuries.
Additional Arrests and Incidents
The Boca Raton Police Department told Fox News Digital that two others were arrested for boating under the influence. Authorities also responded to six boat collisions, none resulting in serious injuries. The Boca Fire Department handled six medical transports and one trauma alert for severe lacerations.
Partiers noted a heavier law enforcement presence this year, including undercover officers. The ticket-free, all-day party, hosted annually since 2007 by an independent group, attracts thousands of people on boats, floaties, and paddleboards. The Boca Fire Department reported between 8,000 and 10,000 attendees this year, making it one of the largest water events in South Florida.
Attendee Reactions
CJ Thomas, a Deerfield resident and multiple-time attendee, described it as the 'biggest event of the year.' He recalled seeing a floating stripper pole, beer kegs, and college students having fun. He noted the heavy police presence this year. Boater Jenna Goldstein said she felt 'very safe' due to the police patrols on wave runners.
A representative for the Boca Raton Police Department stated the event is not sanctioned by the city, but the city works with multiple law enforcement agencies to ensure safety. Agencies including the Fire Department, Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Coast Guard, and ICE patrolled the 2026 Boca Bash.
History of Incidents
The party has been linked to major incidents, including a 32-year-old man drowning in 2018 and a man charged with second-degree attempted murder in 2022 for allegedly holding his girlfriend underwater; he was acquitted last month. Law enforcement also cracked down on boat ramps, restricting access to Delray Beach residents once parking lots filled, making it harder for attendees to enter and exit the water.
