Police in Philadelphia are hunting for a killer after a popular local wrestler died from gunshot wounds to the head and leg. Walter Stephen Holloway, 31, known in the wrestling community as Braxx, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Wednesday night.
Incident Details
Officers discovered Holloway injured in the street in the Point Breeze area after responding to reports of a late-night disturbance. Authorities believe the suspect fled on foot and may have had a disagreement with Holloway the day before the shooting.
According to 6abc, police stated: "We are getting some information that these two individuals - the shooter and the victim - may have been involved in a previous altercation as recently as yesterday, and may have escalated into the shooting today."
Tributes from the Wrestling Community
As authorities continue their search, many in the wrestling world have paid tribute to Braxx. His friend Matt Trement wrote on Instagram: "Just got some news that my homie Walt aka Braxx Unleashed has passed. We first met at Superkrazze Wrestling and later came to H2O. He would come hang out at GCW as well. From day 1 was respectful and super cool and chill! We wrestled each other a few times & we tagged together."
Trement added: "He was meant to be a dominant hardcore giant in the ring and had a big heart outside of it. Kept in touch after we moved and always sent each other funny reels on IG. I was and always will be a Braxx guy! He was my guy, a friend and a Deathmatch warrior. My thoughts and prayers out to his family. I know Braxx is above now and with his momma who he loved dearly."
X Brand Wrestling, a professional wrestling organization that worked with Holloway, released a statement: "Braxx was here from day one. He was on the very first X Brand Wrestling show. Braxx was in that locker room. He helped build this house with his hands, his heart, and his body. We will honor Braxx the right way, together, when the family is ready. Rest easy, brother. Day one. Forever."
The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
