Herefordshire Council has issued an update on its investigation into a pet cremation business used by vets across England and Wales, after distressing photos surfaced online.
Investigation ongoing
The council's Animal Health and Animal Welfare Team is continuing to work with other statutory agencies, including the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and the Environment Agency, within its regulatory responsibilities. Officers have visited the Kington site and spoken with those involved.
The local authority said it will contact any pet owners identified as directly affected and provide information and support as details emerge.
Owner's anguish
Trish Morgan, 65, from Sarn in Powys, said: "I just want answers – it's the not knowing how long this has been going on. I think this is worse than losing her at the beginning."
Councillor Barry Durkin, cabinet member for roads and regulatory, said: "We recognise how upsetting and distressing this situation is for those people involved and understand why the images and reports circulating on social media have caused concern and anxiety for pet owners."
The APHA previously confirmed an inspector issued a stop notice on July 9 prohibiting operations using animal by-products at the site, citing multiple incidents of non-compliance with ABP regulations.
