Greater Manchester Police have issued a major update after receiving reports of a man behaving suspiciously near a school in Oldham. The incident occurred in the Shaw area on July 3, prompting an increased police presence and a review of local CCTV footage.
Police confirm no threat to pupils or staff
In a statement, the force confirmed that the man was identified as a parent of a child at the nearby school. He was carrying a Stanley knife because he was undertaking repair work at a property in the vicinity. Officers concluded there was no threat to pupils or staff, and no further action is being taken.

Neighbourhood officers have worked closely with the school and can confirm the individual is the parent of a child at the school. He was carrying a Stanley knife while undertaking repair work at a property nearby.'
Police thank public for reporting concerns
The force also thanked members of the public who reported their concerns, stating: 'Reporting concerns to us is always the right thing to do. The matter has now been fully resolved.' Local officers had been collaborating with schools and businesses to review CCTV and identify the man, but the investigation concluded swiftly after the individual was located.
