A murder investigation is underway after a woman was stabbed to death in Newton Heath, the Manchester Evening News understands. Officers were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning (October 15). It is believed that at least two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Forensic teams gather evidence across several streets
A blue forensic tent has been placed in Stapleton Road, while forensic investigators have been gathering extensive evidence from Edmonton Road. Part of Briscoe Lane has also been closed off, alongside other nearby streets including Crayford Road.
Witnesses described hearing a commotion in the early hours of the morning, including 'screams', moments before a car was caught up in a collision. Images from the scene show a white Volkswagen Up damaged on Edmonton Road, with forensics markers placed beside it.
Residents describe police cordon and damaged cars
One woman told the M.E.N. her car had been 'collided into and sandwiched within the crime scene'. Another neighbour claimed a driver had 'tried to smash into a police van on Briscoe Lane', while forensics investigators also inspected a damaged car on Crayford Road.
One resident living close to the scene said: "All the road is taped off. Police are not allowing any residents to drive out of the street. Unless you are leaving on foot the police are not allowing me to even walk up the road."
The resident added: "There is a small white car that has been smashed into near Southgate Avenue and the female officer said I 'wouldn't want to see what was further up the street'. This started around 3am."
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further information.
