Newcastle defender Dedic sparks police operation over bow

Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic triggered a significant police response after he was seen carrying a bow and arrows near a reservoir in Northumberland. The player, who joined Newcastle in a £30 million deal from Benfica in the summer, was reported by a member of the public who observed him and a friend walking with the weapon close to the village of Harlow Hill.

Police Response and Seizure

According to the Daily Mail, police dispatched several vehicles to the area, including armed response units. Dedic and his friend were stopped by officers, who then searched a car and seized the bow and arrows.

Following their investigation, officers concluded there was no threat to the public, although enquiries are ongoing. Dedic and his friend are said to have fired some arrows while in the countryside, though it has not been determined what they were aiming at.

Official Statement

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: 'Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.'

'Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing.'

The Daily Mail adds that Dedic will not face disciplinary action from Newcastle over the incident.
