Newborn Found Dead in Black Country Waste Pile

A newborn baby girl was found dead in a pile of rubbish at an industrial site in the Black Country, prompting a police appeal to find her mother.

Discovery at Rowley Regis Industrial Site

The body was discovered on Thursday morning at a waste pile on Station Road, Rowley Regis. West Midlands Police believe the waste had been unknowingly transported by a private waste operator to the site on Wednesday, with the discovery made just before noon the following day.

Detectives are conducting forensic examinations to identify the baby and determine the cause of death. They are also reviewing CCTV footage and contacting hospitals as part of the investigation.

Police Appeal for Mother

Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake said: "While we don't yet know what has happened, what we do know is that there must be a mother out there who is in real need of help - and she is our absolute priority at the moment."

She added: "We have been checking CCTV and speaking to hospitals, but it may be that the mother or someone who knows who she is sees this appeal. I really want to speak to her to make sure she's OK, and to ensure that she can get the help that she urgently needs."

Urgent Appeal for Information

DCI Westlake urged anyone with information to come forward: "We'll treat information we receive sensitively, and we'd ask for anyone who can help us identify who baby and mother was to come forward. It may be you live near a baby, and their mother, who have unexpectedly not been seen for a number of days."
