The Taiwanese crime drama The Victims Game has been added to Netflix UK. The eight-episode series, which first aired on Netflix in April 2020, follows forensic scientist Fang Yi-jen, played by Joseph Chang, who has Asperger's syndrome. After discovering his estranged daughter's link to a series of mysterious murders, he risks everything to solve the case.
Chang is joined in the cast by Ann Hsu as investigative journalist Hsu Hai-yin, along with Jason Wang, Ruby Lin and River Huang. Joseph Chang earned two Golden Horse Award nominations for his role in the film Eternal Summer, while Ann Hsu, also known as Tiffany Ann Hsu, has a Golden Bell Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Way We Were.
Fans have been left with unanswered questions, particularly about the relationship between Fang Yi-jen and Hsu Hai-yin, leading to speculation about a second season. Netflix has not yet confirmed a renewal, but if the show is given the go-ahead, a second series could arrive in 2022, with production halted by the coronavirus outbreak.
Viewers have responded positively, with one fan tweeting: 'I'm awake because I've been watching The Victims' Game on Netflix and it's so good. Someone please watch it so I have someone to discuss it with.' Another wrote: 'Great series, binge-watched the entire miniseries in two days. I expect several Golden Bell nominations.' Reviews have also been favourable, with Decider.com reporting 85 per cent of viewers choosing to stream the show, and Ready Steady Cut praising the believable bond between the lead characters.
Should a second season materialise, it may tackle new cases and explore Fang Yi-jen's new role as a forensic professor, as well as his rekindled relationship with his daughter. However, no trailer has yet been released, and fans may have to wait a year or two before seeing any new footage.
