Model Tortured, Killed and Cannibalised Wealthy Husband in Horrific Crime
In a case that shocked California, a 23-year-old model was convicted for the brutal murder, castration, and cannibalisation of her wealthy older husband, whom she cooked with barbecue sauce after dismembering his body.
Electric Connection Turned Sinister
Omaima Nelson, an Egyptian-born model, met Bill Nelson, a 56-year-old pilot, while playing pool at a Huntington Beach bar in October 1991. Police alleged she frequented bars to target older men. Their connection was immediate, leading to marriage within days. However, the relationship quickly descended into violence.
BDSM Game Triggered Deadly Attack
On November 28, 1991, less than a month after marrying, Bill tied Omaima to the bed as part of a BDSM sex game at their Orange Beach apartment. According to her testimony, she panicked when he ignored her pleas to stop and assaulted her. Omaima, who had suffered female genital mutilation as a child, described sex as traumatic and painful.
Dressed in a red dress and boots, she broke free, struck Bill with a lamp, stabbed him with scissors, and beat him with an iron. Autopsy reports revealed ligature marks on Bill's wrists, indicating she restrained him before the murder.
Trance-Like Dismemberment and Cannibalism
Omaima told her psychologist she entered a trance-like state over 12 hours, during which she dismembered the body and boiled parts, including his head and hands. She castrated him, allegedly as revenge for the sexual assaults, and boiled his hands to destroy fingerprints.
Chillingly, she mixed his flesh with leftover Thanksgiving turkey and disposed of it via a waste disposal unit, which neighbours reported running non-stop for two days. Police later found strips of flesh in a soup pot and freezer, his hands in a deep-fat fryer, and his preserved head in a cooler.
Barbecue Sauce Confession and Evidence Trail
Omaima confessed to her psychiatrist that she cooked Bill's ribs and covered them in barbecue sauce, though she later denied this. Only 150lbs of his 230lb body were recovered, with his genitals among the missing parts.
On December 2, she was arrested while driving Bill's red Corvette, soliciting boyfriends to help dispose of his dismembered corpse. Black bin bags stuffed with organs were found in the vehicle. A video showed officers shocked at discovering organs in the bags.
Parole Denied Due to Unpredictable Behaviour
At trial, Omaima stated, If I didn't defend my life, I would have been dead. I'm sorry it happened, but I'm glad I lived. I'm sorry I dismembered him. Despite parole eligibility, she has been denied release twice due to violent behaviour in prison, including assaulting a guard.
California's parole board deemed her unpredictable and a serious threat to public safety. She will be re-eligible for release this year, but her horrific actions continue to resonate as a grim reminder of this gruesome crime.
