A 13-year-old boy who reportedly got into difficulty in the North Sea has prompted a large-scale rescue operation in Hornsea, with multiple emergency services involved.
Emergency response
Humberside Police, HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are all attending the scene at South Promenade in Hornsea. The boy was reported missing at around 6pm today.
Chief Superintendent Phil Booker of Humberside Police said: "After receiving the report, officers were immediately deployed alongside other emergency services and upon attending, it was discovered that a 13-year-old boy had reportedly got into difficulty whilst swimming in the water."
Search efforts
Specialist Police Search Advisors (POLSA), the Marine Unit, and drone pilots have been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue operation. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has also confirmed that Hornsea Rescue, a Bridlington RNLI lifeboat, a Coastguard helicopter, and a fixed-wing aircraft are involved.
Booker added: "Our priority now is to find the boy, and members of the public can expect to see specialist Police Search Advisors (POLSA), along with our Marine Unit and drone pilots, who have also been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue operation to locate him."
Public appeal
Authorities urge the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work efficiently and safely, and to refrain from speculating on the circumstances. Anyone with information is asked to speak to officers in Hornsea or contact via 101 quoting log 415 of 4 August.
