Met Police reportedly lost Meghan's letter over Thomas Markle abuse claims
Met Police reportedly lost Meghan letter on Markle claims

The Metropolitan Police reportedly lost a letter sent in 2019 that warned about Thomas Markle Sr. being an alleged child abuser, and have asked Meghan Markle to provide her copy, according to The Times.

The letter was written by Thomas Markle's ex-wife, Roslyn, who claimed Meghan's father was a child abuser. It was then shared with Meghan and Prince Harry, who subsequently cut all ties with Thomas. Meghan believed the letter and its claims were under investigation, but reports indicate this was not the case.

Police Review and Lost Letter

The Met Police, which did not share details of the letter with other enforcement agencies, said they failed to act on the tip-off and are now reviewing how they handled the allegations. The Times has claimed the original letter was lost, prompting police to request a copy from Meghan, which she has reportedly shared.

The Sun reports that the police force had previously said it received the letter after it was sent to the MPS Protection Command to "raise concerns in relation to the security of the Duchess of Sussex." The letter was addressed to the Met's Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC), which deals with risks posed by obsessives to the Royal Family and VIPs.

Investigation into Thomas Markle Sr.

The news of the 2019 letter has come to light after an investigation began into Thomas Markle Sr., Meghan's father. His son, Thomas Junior, allegedly found boxes of child abuse images at Meghan's father's home in the Philippines. Thomas Junior reported this to the Philippine police force, which is now investigating, and to the FBI in America, where Thomas Sr. lives.

Thomas Sr. has denied the allegations. He told The Daily Mail the allegations were "sick lies," saying: "I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies. I could never do what I'm being accused of. It's the worst thing anyone could accuse me of." He has also said he has never had sex with anyone under the age of 18.

Meghan's Statement

Meghan said she was "distressed" by the allegations against her father. In a statement last Friday, she confirmed she had received a letter with certain allegations years ago, saying: "I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed. In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me.

"It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated. I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications' distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them. I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.

"Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children."

The Met Police have been contacted for comment.
