Shocking CCTV footage has emerged showing masked thugs hurling firebombs into a Muslim prayer room at Café Raha in Blackburn, Lancashire. The attack occurred at around 2:30 AM on Tuesday, igniting flames that engulfed the spiritual space at the front of the building. This is the second assault on the premises within a week, leaving locals on edge.
Police Investigation Underway
Lancashire Police have confirmed an investigation is ongoing but stated there is 'no suggestion' that the incident was racially or religiously motivated. A spokesperson said: 'While the motivation has yet to be fully established, there is no suggestion at this time that it is racially or religiously motivated. We are aware such incidents can be distressing, but we reassure the public that this is an active investigation.' Increased patrols have been deployed in the area.
Owner Speaks Out
Mohammed Awais, owner of Café Raha, expressed dismay, telling the Lancashire Telegraph: 'We put our hearts and souls into this place. We have not done anything to anyone. Whatever it is, it should not push someone to do something so dangerous.' He added that the attack threatens livelihoods and urged anyone with issues to speak directly. He thanked fire crews and a neighbour who alerted them promptly.
The video shows a group of men in balaclavas throwing lit bottles of accelerant through windows, causing the room to catch fire. Firefighters from Blackburn and Hyndburn attended the scene at 2:40 AM, extinguishing the blaze. No injuries have been reported.
Awais noted that the prayer room is clearly identifiable from outside, with Arabic verses and prayer mats visible through the glass. The community remains shaken, but police continue to appeal for information.
