Police Launch Manhunt After Knifepoint Rolex Robbery in King Charles' Model Community

A major police manhunt is currently underway for two suspects involved in a violent knifepoint robbery in Poundbury, the visionary model community originally championed by King Charles III. The incident has sent shockwaves through the carefully planned Dorset town, raising concerns about safety in what was designed as an idyllic, walkable utopia.

Violent Afternoon Attack on Great Field

The robbery occurred at approximately 4:45 PM on Tuesday, April 2, on Poundbury's Great Field. A man in his thirties was walking through the open space when he was approached by two young men. The assailants threatened him with a knife before forcibly stealing his valuable Rolex GMT watch. The victim, though shaken, did not sustain serious physical injuries during the confrontation.

Detectives from Dorset County CID have launched a comprehensive investigation, appealing urgently to the public for assistance. They are particularly keen to obtain any doorbell camera footage, residential CCTV recordings, or car dashcam videos from the area around the time of the incident.

Detailed Suspect Descriptions Released

Police have released detailed descriptions of the two suspects in hopes that members of the public might recognize them.

  • Suspect One: Described as a white male in his early twenties, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded jumper, tracksuit bottoms, and black trainers at the time of the robbery.
  • Suspect Two: Also described as a white male in his early twenties, but shorter at around 5 feet 5 inches tall with a slim build. He was similarly dressed in a black hooded jumper, tracksuit bottoms, and trainers.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detective Constable Scarlett Thornton, leading the investigation, made a direct appeal to residents and motorists. 'We are continuing to investigate this robbery and I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding those involved to please come forward,' she stated.

'I would also urge any residents in the vicinity with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, as well as motorists who were in the area around the relevant time with dashcam, to please review their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.' The appeal underscores the critical role modern technology plays in contemporary police investigations.

Poundbury: The King's Visionary Community

The robbery has drawn particular attention due to its location. Poundbury is a unique urban extension of Dorchester in Dorset, built on Duchy of Cornwall land. It was the personal vision of the then-Prince Charles, conceived as a model, sustainable community that integrates private housing with affordable homes, boutique shops, workplaces, and essential services like a local school and medical centre—all within easy walking distance.

Construction on this pioneering project began in 1993, and it is scheduled for final completion in 2028. The community is often cited as an example of traditional urban planning principles applied to modern development, making this violent crime especially jarring against its planned, peaceful backdrop.

Authorities are treating the case with high priority, combining traditional detective work with appeals for digital evidence to track down the perpetrators and restore a sense of security to the community.
