Seattle police are investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old transgender female University of Washington student was found fatally stabbed in a student housing laundry room on Sunday night. Officers discovered the victim's body at approximately 10:10 p.m. at a student housing block, and despite attempted lifesaving treatment, she was pronounced dead.
Suspect Description
A manhunt has been launched for an "armed and dangerous" Black male suspect, described as 25-30 years old, 5'6 to 5'8 tall, with a beard, wearing a vest, button-up shirt, and blue jeans. Police stated that while the suspect is considered dangerous, they do not believe anyone else is currently at risk, but emphasized the importance of apprehending him quickly.
University Response
University of Washington President Robert J. Jones expressed profound loss and acknowledged that violence affecting a trans person can be particularly concerning for the LGBTQIA+ community, with support being offered to students. The university is cooperating with law enforcement and urging anyone with information to come forward.
