A man accused of violently assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport has denied claims that he 'saw red' during the altercation. The defendant, whose identity has not been disclosed, insisted he was merely trying to protect his brother during an arrest.
The incident, which was captured on CCTV, showed the suspect repeatedly punching the officer as he attempted to detain the man’s brother. Prosecutors argued that the attack was unprovoked and excessive, while the defence maintained that the accused acted out of instinct to shield his sibling.
Courtroom Drama Unfolds
During the trial, the prosecution presented footage of the chaotic scene, where the officer was seen being struck multiple times. Witnesses described the attack as 'brutal and relentless,' with the officer sustaining minor injuries.
The defendant, however, claimed he never intended to harm the officer and was simply reacting to what he perceived as an unjust arrest. 'I didn’t see red—I just wanted to stop them from hurting my brother,' he told the court.
Legal Battle Ahead
The case has sparked debate over the use of force by both law enforcement and civilians. Legal experts suggest the outcome could set a precedent for similar altercations in the future.
The trial continues as both sides prepare to call additional witnesses. If convicted, the defendant could face significant jail time for assaulting an emergency worker.
