Man rushed to hospital after Leicester Square assault

A man has been taken to hospital following an assault in Leicester Square on Tuesday night. Emergency services were called just after 9pm to the busy tourist spot, and the victim was treated at the scene before being transported to a major trauma centre.

Police cordon and scene response

Police officers remain at the scene this morning, with a large cordon in place around the area. Tourists have reportedly been gathering to take photos with the Bridget Jones statue, which sits inside the cordon, but have been unable to access it.

Ambulance service statement

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.06pm yesterday to reports of an assault in Leicester Square. We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived in less than three minutes. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority."

The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment.
