Man rushed to hospital after bottle attack outside Glasgow shelter

A man has been taken to hospital after being struck on the head with a glass bottle outside a homeless shelter in Glasgow city centre.

The incident happened on Wednesday night at around 11.55pm on Glassford Street. Emergency crews attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital in an ambulance. The nature of his injuries is not yet known.

CCTV captures the attack

Disturbing CCTV footage from the scene shows a man wearing a light blue and black tracksuit top holding what appears to be a glass bottle behind his back. A man wearing a cap and a blue jacket tries to walk away, but he is struck on the head with the weapon.

The footage then shows the victim lying on the pavement, covered with a foil blanket and attended to by ambulance staff. A blood-soaked tissue can be seen on the pavement above his head. The clip ends with the man being wheeled into the back of an ambulance.

Shelter calls for accountability

Homeless Project Scotland, which runs the shelter, released a statement online. A spokesperson said: "Nobody should have to endure abuse or violence. Our thoughts are with the victim as he recovers.

"We call for those responsible to be held accountable. Everyone who comes to us deserves to be treated with dignity and to feel safe."
