Merseyside Police arrested a 52-year-old man from Wavertree on suspicion of aggravated burglary after he was found hiding under a bed with a baseball bat in Garston. The arrest followed an emergency call in the early hours of this morning reporting an intruder inside a house in the St Mary's Road area.
Patrol officers searched the property and located the suspect hiding under a bed, allegedly in possession of a baseball bat. The man remains in police custody for questioning.
Police response and appeal
Detective Inspector Kevin O'Rourke described the incident as "undoubtedly a very distressing experience for the occupant," adding that "a break-in at your home is an awful experience for anyone, made even worse when it happens while they are inside the property."
He said: "Our officers responded quickly and made a swift arrest. However, enquiries remain ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to come forward."
O'Rourke also asked residents to check CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage that may have captured a man behaving suspiciously, as this could assist the investigation.
