A 46-year-old man has died after jumping from a bridge into the River Dee in Llangollen, North Wales. The incident occurred at the bridge on Castle Street on Friday, July 11, at 8:16 pm, prompting a major emergency response.

Emergency services conducted a search of the river after witnesses reported seeing a man jump from the bridge. The man was located and taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where he later died. North Wales Police have informed the man's family and the coroner.
Police Statement and Safety Concerns
In a statement, North Wales Police said: 'At 8.16pm on Friday, July 11, police officers responded to the bridge on Castle Street, Llangollen following witnesses reporting seeing a man jump from the bridge. Following searches conducted in the river, a 46 year old man was located and conveyed to hospital in Wrexham, where he later sadly passed away.'
The statement added: 'The man's family and the coroner have been informed, and the circumstances are still being investigated. Our thoughts are with the individual's family and friends at this time, and I would like to thank officers, our emergency service partners, and the assisting public for their response to this incident.'
Police acknowledged they are 'aware of safety concerns locally regarding diving off the bridge.' While jumping from the bridge is not a criminal offence, officers will continue to work with Denbighshire County Council and Llangollen Town Council to highlight the dangers and advise individuals against such actions.
