A man has died after falling from a height at Birmingham Children's Hospital, just one day after Prince Harry visited the site. Emergency services were called to the hospital in the city centre following the incident.
Details of the Incident
The tragedy occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026, with the man plunging from an upper floor of the hospital. Paramedics and police arrived at the scene but the man was pronounced dead shortly after. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Royal Visit Preceded Tragedy
Prince Harry had visited the same hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2026, to meet with staff and patients. The purpose of his visit was to highlight the work of the hospital's children's services. It is not believed the two events are connected.
Investigation Underway
West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. A cordon was put in place around the hospital as officers carried out inquiries. The hospital has confirmed that services continue as normal, but access to certain areas may be restricted.
Hospital Statement
A spokesperson for Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust said: "We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with the family of the man who died. We are supporting the police with their investigation and providing support to staff and patients who may have been affected."
