A quiet residential street in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, has been rocked by a horrific alleged double murder, with a 34-year-old man now facing charges.
Emergency services were called to a property on Highbury Road just after 6pm on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of two individuals inside the home.
Chilling Details Emerge
Victoria Police have confirmed that a man known to the victims has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder. While formal identification of the deceased is yet to be completed, detectives believe the victims were known to the accused.
"This was a targeted incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community," a police spokesperson stated during a press conference on Wednesday morning.
Community in Shock
Neighbours described the normally peaceful suburb as "completely shaken" by the tragedy. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters: "This sort of thing just doesn't happen here. It's terrifying to think something so violent could occur in our quiet neighbourhood."
