A man has been charged following a rooftop standoff with police in Hindley. Ryan Renshaw, of no fixed abode, has been charged in connection with the incident.
Details of the incident
Police were initially called to reports of a burglary on Oxford Road in Atherton at around 9.15am on Sunday, October 4. A car was reported to have been stolen. Officers tracked the car to Armistead Street in Hindley, where the driver was reported to have fled on foot before climbing onto the roof of a property on Lord Street.
Police and fire crews attended and a cordon was put in place around the area. After around three hours, a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Charges and court appearance
In an update issued today (October 6), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the 30-year-old has been charged with nine offences. These are: burglary, two counts of criminal damage, aggravated vehicle taking with dangerous driving, handling stolen goods, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, obstructing an officer and breach of court bail.
Renshaw has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Wigan Magistrates' Court today.
